Dear Starr Families,

On June 15th, at  the Richmond Community Schools Board Meeting, I was approved as the new principal of Starr Elementary School.  I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such resilient students, an extremely dedicated staff, and a supportive school community.  I feel very fortunate to be part of this school and to serve the students, staff, and families.

My family originally moved here when I was very young, so I have grown up in the Richmond Community Schools family.    Through my years at Garrison Elementary, Test Middle School, and Richmond High School, I was blessed to have learned from the amazing teachers that teach here.   My husband, a graduate of Centerville High School,  and I live here in Richmond. When I am at home, we enjoy playing games and spending time with the many different animals with whom we share our lives.

Professionally, I have spent my life dedicated to the education and well-being of the students at Starr Elementary.  I began my journey as a Cross Categorical Teacher in 2001.  Then I spent the next 18 years teaching the amazing students of Starr in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades.  In 2020, I was blessed with the opportunity to become the Instructional Coach at Starr, which I have been doing until this past school year.  When I was asked to step into the role as the new principal of Starr, I was deeply honored.  I am thrilled to bring my skills as an educational leader to Starr Elementary School and to work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child's success.

In my career, I have learned from many educators and leaders.  To me,  education is a life-long process and I am sure that I will continue to learn from all of our students, and you, this year and in the years to come.  Most importantly, I bring a belief that students are at the center of all school-related decisions.  I am excited to unite my experience, my openness to learn, and my child-centered approach to support our students.

I’m thrilled to be serving our students in this new role.  It is going to be a great year!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Melissa M. Jordan
